NEW RELEASE: True Abandon Review

My Review
This book is so captivating and draws you in immediately!
True Abandon is Relatable, HOT, and Eye Opening. Jeannine Colette's new release is amazing for so many different reasons. Ladies... One time or another we have all been burned by someone you loved. Maybe you haven't and that's good, but there are the few of us that have been so deeply hurt by someone we never expected. An in one way or another that shapes your outlook on life, and how we handle situations from then on. You may not even notice it right away, but you will. The story line is cohesive, believable, forgiving, relatable, and refreshing. Trish was burned by someone she trusted and loved deeply. The two of them had fallen in love in high school. Jackson was young, but older than Trish. Jackson was like most young men his age an was influence-able and caves to peer pressure. Jackson makes the biggest mistake and it costs him the love of his life.

True Abandon paints this beautiful picture of what it is like to forgive in the most unlikely of situations.  Any love given time and forgiveness can be repaired, even in the toughest of times. This book gives hope and teaches us that forgiveness is not just about forgiving the other person, but about helping you heal and move forward. Trish runs from everything that is Jackson Davis.  You get to see friendships tested and love renewed. Jackson and Trish have a few demons they must overcome before they are able to trust one another again and move forward to their happy ending. Watching them overcome these obstacles was inspiring!! When Trish gets a phone call in the middle of a horrible storm and is beckoned to the bed side of the man who had broken her heart.  Dose she go to him? Should she just say the heck with it and let him die alone in the hospital with no one to be there for him? Why should she even care after everything he has put her through? Sometimes we hate someone so much only because we love them even more.

Given a little white lie by Jackson's sister Trish feels horrible and doesn’t want to let him die alone. No one really deserves that.  Now if you were to tell me this story coming from anyone else I would say HELL NO!! He is toxic and run away from that mess and don’t look back!!!  Jeannie Colette has a way of weaving this story so perfectly that you can't argue it. A second chance love story. True Abandon will captivate you with every word, and steal your heart.  Jeannine Colette will transport you to Hawaii and take you on one incredible journey. I felt like I was right back in Hawaii while reading. Thank You for this beautiful love story.

The Thing About Love... Synopsis

Los Angeles 2017 – In The Thing About Love... young Ellie Valencia is a shadow of herself, after the man she loves leaves her without an explanation or goodbye. She's lost in sorrow and self-pity. But the universe has plans for her, and she unexpectedly meets the charming and sexy Jack Milian, the antithesis of her ex. There's only one problem, Jack is her ex's best friend. Despite destiny's cruel joke, Ellie is willing find herself again, to heal and give love a chance. But will Jack fight for her against the innate obstacles that arise from falling for his best friend's ex? The turmoil and passionate romance Ellie and Jack find themselves in is The Thing About Love...   Set in Los Angeles, The Thing About Love... is coming of age contemporary romance that is engaging, sexy, and inspiring. More than a story of love and passion, the author created complex characters that grow as the story develops. As a reflection of the people who inspired them, the characters are Hispanic and the author pays tribute to her Mexican heritage throughout the story, without making it overtly glaring to the reader.

My Review
The thing I love about this book is how relatable it is. At least once in everyone's life they experience this sort of heart ache. It is almost like a rite of passage. A horrible rite of passage, but something that needs to happen for us to see more clearly. To love someone so much, or the idea of what could be that it guts you so deeply. Making ourselves sick over someone who was never supposed to be ours in the first place. Two people that just weren't meant to be anything more than a lesson. Ellie wasn't exactly lucky in love the first time around. It took her 5 long months, her best friend Marie, a book, and a workshop on self-love to bring her out of her stupor. Then she meets Jack. Jack is the it guy. This is the type of man that women stop in their tracks for an stare at, and then proceed to throw themselves at shamelessly. Ellie and Jack's first introduction wasn't very successful. She was slowly making her way back into reality, but still stuck in her own head. The second meeting is when she realizes how lost she was. How in the heck did she not realize this beautiful man's bluish grey eyes? His touches transport you into another universe. His kisses steal your breath away. Being with him is more than just exciting... Being with him is realizing that you never want to know another day without him in your life.

Ellie went through so much heart ache and self-hate. She lost something she never really had in the first place. I believe this book is a revelation for any woman/man going through a similar situation. Maybe they haven't met their Jack yet, but are stuck in lust with the wrong man/woman. It shows women/men that you can be with someone for 3 long years and not realize how wrong that you are for one another. Love should never be a one-sided road you travel down. In life and in love everyone who is participating should be present! Ellie is fortunate to have her friend Marie throughout this awful lesson. At least she had someone to keep her checked into reality and forced her to think about what she was doing to herself. Ellie became this unrecognizable shell of a women she didn't even know anymore. This wasn't how she seen her life turning out. So, she did what we all do in desperate times. She poured herself into her work. Slowly coming back to reality is when she notices this wonderful man, whom she may never have met if she stayed in that horrible state of mind.  We all have had a Mike in our lives that has hurt us in some deep way. Everybody has their own way of dealing with heartache. Yes, he (Mike) started out as a dochebag, and it ended with him being the same way.  The thing is when you are attracted to someone who may have what you are looking for you go into a state of denial.  He will change, so you tell yourself, and he will love me, I just have to give it time… Let Ellie be an example to anyone who hasn't gone through this. I think the author was trying to show women what not to be like. Showing us that we deserve so much more if we only get out of our own way. We are our own worst enemy! To learn to love yourself and figure out what you want from love and from life. It is so easy to lose yourself in throw of things. Especially with a hot guy that makes you feel so good. Even if it is only for little bits at a time. You become so dependent on getting those little displays of affection each time you see each other. Open our eyes women, and when you do, and are able to truly love yourself, you will find what you are looking for. Sometimes you'll find things you never knew you needed. Maybe you'll find your Jack. Not only was this book about finding love, but finding yourself. Thank you for gifting me this beautiful story about love and self-discovery. This was exactly the sort of book I needed. A book to remind me not to forget to love me first. I had my Ellie moment in life. I have my Jack. I was able to relate to her on such a personal level and that was what drew me in.

by Lauren Runow!

Title: Falling into the Black
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Designer: Designed with Grace
Release Date: August 1, 2017
Book Description
Ten years ago we said goodbye.

I left the world I knew to create a new life for myself. Away from the lies. Away from the pain.

It was all going as planned until a friend asked for help with her club. The business was liberating. The company was intoxicating.

Two masked men became my euphoria. One was a player deep in the game. A teacher both intimately and figuratively.

The other was a quiet director. A man who tempted me with his stares and set me on fire with his dark whispers

His secrecy excited me, bringing me to levels I've never imagined. I thought we were playing a game, but little did I know he knew exactly who I was.

I just wish I figured out his true identity before I fell for his best friend.

* Falling into the Black is a standalone novel with an HEA.

“Angie Smith?”
My lips tilt up slightly. “Pleasure to meet you.”
“Funny, sometimes you can tell because their name just fits them. I would never guess you for an Angie.”
“Why would you say that?”
He taps his lower lip with a long, deft finger, and I’m instantly distracted by the thought of what that finger could do.
“I don’t know. Just something told me that wasn’t you. You and Ashley were the only two people I couldn’t find any pictures of or any info on really. You guys are smart, or should I add, private.”
“Let’s go with private.” I wink, which makes him raise his eyebrows. I can tell I’m the oldest in the class, and the mad professor here seems to be closer to my age, but I’m still trying to figure out what his name is. “Can I play your little game?”
His lips push together as he nods his head in interest. “By all means. Do you want the class list?”
“No, I bet I can guess your name.”
His head moves up and down slowly. “Take your best shot.” His arms open wide, allowing me to fully take in every part of him.
“Let’s see. I know it starts with a C by my registration, but you have that whole nerdy, indie vibe going on, so I’m going to rule out Chris, Charlie, and Cameron.” The barely noticeable lift to his lips tells me that neither of those is his name, so I start naming off every C name I can think of, waiting for any type of reaction to show in his features. “Christian, Caleb, Connor, Cody, Colin, Cole—” The twitch in his eye makes me stop. I pause, looking him up and down before slightly tilting my head in recognition. “Nice to meet you, Cole.”
The grin covering his face makes me sit back in my chair. Yup, I’m made for this.
“Nicely done, Angie. The master gets beat at his own game. After class you’re going to have to tell me more about how you did that.”
“Anytime, Professor Spence,” I say in a flirtatious way.
His eyes meet mine for what I think is a second too long for a student/teacher moment, but I don’t mind. When they break away, he addresses everyone else, “This course is going to be interactive, and I encourage participation. So, everyone get up, move closer, and gather around Mrs. Smith here.” He returns my earlier wink before turning back around and writing his name across the board.
I’m intrigued by his lecture the entire night, and yeah, a lot of it was because he’s easy on the eye. I also happen to love the way he challenges people and really gets us involved.
When he says good night, I turn to gather my things and am startled when I hear, “Angie, can I talk to you for a minute?”
My eyes meet with a fellow female student, who I shoot a smile before turning around. “Sure, Professor Spence.”
As I approach his desk, he’s gathering his paperwork to put into his backpack. He stops and turns to face me, leaning against the back of the desk and crossing his arms in front of his body. “So tell me, how did you guess my name?”
I tilt my head to the side, showing him the slightest grin. “Well, that’s my little secret. Just like you said, though, you can learn a lot about a person if you pay close enough attention.”
“I’m impressed. Still can’t believe I got your name wrong. First time that little game didn’t work out for me fully. Please tell me Angie isn’t your real name. Give me some kind of hope.”
I close my eyes, smiling but nodding my head slightly. “Okay, I’ll give you that. Angie isn’t my birth name. I legally changed it years ago.” I can’t believe I just told him that. No one here in San Francisco, or hell, in California, knows that Angie isn’t my real name. For some reason, I felt comfortable enough in this moment to admit it.
“Okay, I feel a little bit better now, like I’m not a complete failure at my own game. But how did you know mine?”
“I was already trying to guess what it was before you even spoke. I guess I like to play little games, too.”
He laughs. “That doesn’t answer my question, though.”
“I looked at what you were wearing, how you walked, your body type, the fact that you carry a Vans backpack instead of a briefcase.” I pick up his backpack to prove my point. “Then, just like you, I paid attention and took a gamble. I guess you can say I’m good at reading facial expressions. You gave it away when your eye twitched slightly after I said Cole.”
“Nicely done. You just might be cut out for this lawyer thing after all. So do I get to know your real name?”
I shake my head. “Nope, sorry. To you and everyone else, I’m Angie.” I start to walk away but look over my shoulder. “No offense, though.”
I hear him chuckle as he says, “None taken. See you Wednesday, Mrs. Smith.”
I turn back again, giving him a quick smile before saying, “It’s miss.”

Happy Release Day
 to the real Lauren Runow!!!

Falling Into The Black by Lauren Runow

Lauren Runow has a knack for writing these steamy taboo books. She makes you think hmm... I wonder if places like this really do exist, and are there any where I live? LOL- J/k well maybe. This riveting story will be keeping you turning the pages, and holding onto the edge of your seat whilst you hold your legs open, facing a fan to keep your lady bits from overheating. (I highly recommend the fan.) Also, don't read this at work. You won't be able to focus the rest of your day. Not that I did that or anything...

Falling into The Black is a spinoff from one of my personal favorites Black Widow by the real Lauren Runow. Now you don't need to read that first, BUT I would recommend it. The characters/Protagonists that are in B.W. are sprinkled throughout Falling into The Black. There are places and conversations in this book that are referenced from B.W.  Now I am not saying you half to. That is up to you, but coming from a person who has read both I would. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY You- Won't- Regret- It!!!! I highly suggest reading them back to back!! SO DAMN HOT!!!

I ‘d like to introduce you to my spirt animal Evangeline aka Angie Smith. You'll have to read this steaming hot tamale of a book to find out why she changes her name. Don't you just hate when people do that shit? (insert evil laugh)

(Sorry for my silly analogy. Please bear with me.)
Angie, well she's a like a cat. Cats are those animals who only want your attention when they want it, and then demand it, or better yet tease you with it.  Damn sexy little minx. They'll test out the waters then quickly pull back if they feel like you're coming on to strongly. Angie is a confident, independent, and a openly flirtatious woman. There is always a certain complexity about women that draw men in and make them want to figure us out and pursue us. Angie is that complex protagonist that has men of all kinds wanting to know her. Especially two very mouth wateringly sexy men that hide behind masks. They can't help but fall over their feet to try. She's had a troubled past filled by pain and lies that few of us women would come out from standing upright. I admire Angie for her strength and courage to go on after what she has been through. Lauren created Angie's character very thoroughly with lots of heart and care putting her in a very realistic everyday situation. Lauren has made this character so real for me, making it so easy to transport myself into the story and into Angie's shoes. We all know that few people could ever come out of something so painful without hitting rock bottom. For someone people the only way to move forward is to start fresh somewhere we aren't constantly reminded of our past.  An somewhere that her past wouldn’t think to look for her.

I am a true believer in everything happens for a reason. Her running from her past has led her to exactly where she needed to be. Instead of falling down the rabbit hole she picks up begins to start over. Angie has experienced love once before and it didn't seem to turn out all hearts and flowers.  So, washing her hands of relationships and all things that follow, she decides that sex with no strings attached is much more appealing. It allowed her to guard her heart, and her past. Until her boss and friend Kamii and Kamii’s husband Preston asked her for a favor she couldn't refuse. Pssst- (Kamii and Preston are the protagonist from Black Widow)

A chance at working in an underground sex club sounded exactly like something Angie would be interested in. She could do her friend a favor whilst feeding into her own needs and desires as well. Angie was so stoked at the idea. I love how open-minded Lauren made Angie. I find it hard to like a character(s) in a book when you know eventually they give into whatever it maybe they are holding back from, but they play this push and pull game for way to long. That is surely not the case with Falling into The Black.  I sometimes wonder hmm... Lauren, how did you construct this story so perfectly??? So where did you meet your husband? Hmmm??? LOL
(She knows I'm playing and that I love her so don't worry). The problem with doing the sex and no strings thing is it always ends up being more at some point. Whether it is the girl falling for the boy, or the boy falling for the girl. It really starts to become convoluted when both parties start to feel things that were never meant to be felt. I love this writer’s kinky mind!!!!  The club ensures confidentiality to their clients when they become members. So, the rules at Club Bridge are that no real names can be used, and you must wear a mask to conceal your identity.  But what happens when the masks are off and identities are discovered? What happens when your secret life crosses over into your everyday life? This is something that Lauren Runow has perfected when writing Falling into The Black.

Secrets are revealed, pasts are confronted, and feelings become confusing. Angie goes to the club and finds her fantasies have come to life and sees them unfolding before her. Looking around she realizes how overwhelming it can be taking in everything she is seeing all at once for the first time. I swear I became so engrossed into the story I felt like my senses became heightened, my heart would start racing, and at certain points of the book, I had to put it down to fan myself from the steamy scenes that were unfolding before me. Then go hunt down my husband and attack him. That’s something that I love about Lauren’s books. You always feel like you are really going through, or feeling exactly what the protagonist is feeling. She really has a way of pulling you into the characters world without you realizing it even happened. Which makes for very hot nights for your husbands, boyfriends, or batter operated boyfriends ladies!! The idea that places like that could possibly exist MIND BLOWING!

Lauren dose just that with Falling into The Black. She has you questioning are places like this real? Along with a million other questions you yearn to have answered by her. Lauren Runow is so amazing with the detail she pours into her stories, you begin to wonder how is she able to write this book so well? So, I ask you if you are reading this the real Lauren Runow, how do you write these stories so well? Is there something you would like to share with your readers? I mean these are too good not have some sort of inside information to this world. I suppose she wouldn’t want to share. That’s what makes authors like her so incredible at their craft. Even though they say write what you know… I won’t press it. =) She has yet again written another spellbinding book I won’t be able to stop thinking about!

When she leaves to attend her father’s funeral in the highlands of Scotland, it should have provided the perfect opportunity for some much needed time to reassess her life. However, she wasn’t prepared to meet the force of nature that was Dr Charles Grant, Laird of the Ballindorach estate who sweeps into her life unexpectedly and won't take no for an answer.

Her fail safe technique of burying her head in the sand and trying to ignore sticky situations won’t work this time; her life is changed forever. Not used to having such a dominant alpha waltzing in and making decisions about her and for her, Isabella finds herself in a constant battle of wills.
Skeletons from Charlie's past and present threaten to derail the new relationship, but how much will Isabella take? Can they get past the fact that they come from two very different worlds and make their relationship work outside the bedroom?

Thirsty-Thursday Bookish Update

Thursday, May 25, 2017

Current Reads

Not my cup of coffee, but it may be yours... It was a cute story, but didn't feel much like an MC Book. I just finished this read yesterday 5/24/17.  Dragon's Lair was a good read, but didn't pack the intensity and edge I look for when reading an MC book. It was a sweet story and I was satisfied with the ending. I can't say I'm not intrigued by book #2 Anna's story titled Arrow's Hell . When I read a MC book I need darkness, intensity, action, and more depth not only in the story, but in the characters too which this book lacked. I'm only one person and to each their own. This book just wasn't for me.

Still Reading

Review Due Date: June 23rd, 2017

So far it is intriguing me. I am adjusting. I typically read romance with the occasional change of genre. This is read is starting to get a little scary so I have chosen to read this only during the day. Otherwise I will have dreams of Mr. Mean Man singing that awful Billy Boy song about cherry pies.  Kind of reminds me of a twisted chain saw massacre setting. God knows I love my scary movies so I am already sucked in. Just during the day time though because I am a chicken who loves scary twisted stories! Review to be continued...

New Book Club and Author Interviews

Friday, May 19, 2017

Good Afternoon to all of you that tune in. Last night was the first time since last August that I hopped on my computer, and sat down to write on my blog. Man it was invigorating! I miss this. Reaching out and sharing my thoughts and love for books with like minded folks. The book I reviewed yesterday was a new release by J.L. Drake Devil's Reach book #1 Trigger. I don't want to go on more than I already have, but WOW! If you love MC books as much as me you don't want to miss out on that one.

Anywhoo... I didn't come on here to post a 2nd review. I wanted to share with you that this year I started my first book club. ME! Sure I post reviews and interact with like minded book nuts online all the time, but that's easy. I am sitting behind a computer typing. I am not sitting in a room being forced to interact with people I have never met before, and try to discuss my love and passion for reading, without them looking at me like I am some circus freak. I was so nervous that first meeting. I was shaking as if I was getting ready to go on a date with someone I had never met before. When in reality that was precisely what I was doing except, it was with 7 other women from my community I found in a mom's group on Facebook. An introverts worse nightmare come to life. FORCED INTERACTION WITH PEOPLE I NEVER MET!

Fast forward from January to now it isn't so bad anymore. We have just started our 2nd reading list. I have reached out to our first book's author Jason McIntyre author of "On The Gathering Storm", and he has agreed to do a Skype interview with my club at the end of June. I am beyond stoked!! This will be my first interview with an author. (insert girly screams here)
So I was thinking that besides reviews I can also give book club updates and recommendations from my group to others. Share reading lists and post reviews from my whole group. I would love to hear from other Admins of book clubs and swap lists, idea, or maybe even collaborate on one big review. One of my goals is to contact other authors who would be interested with doing interviews with our little group. Well that is my update for now. I will post our reading list below and the link to my group "Santa Cruz's Sisterhood of The Traveling Book Club" Below. Happy Reading and I look forward to more book talk <3
